Building an Ethical AI Team
In this episode of ‘Are You A Robot?’, Dan Jeffries, futurist and Chief Technical Evangelist at Pachyderm, joins us discuss what factors are most important when building an ethical AI team.
Using the example of Google Photos racist algorithm, Dan suggests that PR teams need to be trained be on the front line for when things go wrong. They need to be able to explain technical issues to people from non-technical backgrounds. For example, when it comes to racist algorithms, some customers might automatically assume it’s an intentional fault of the engineer. However, this isn’t usually the case.
“These teams are going to be expensive but, they’re going to be a necessity in any group that’s doing machine learning intelligence.”
Dan is also aware of the expenses that come with building up ethical AI teams. But, it will be worth it in the long run. Companies might suffer worse down the line, through losing customers, bad PR and even facing legal battles.
